TOUGH WEEKEND IN TOWNSVILLE
Craig Lowndes had what can best be called a ‘character building’ weekend in Townsville, at the latest V8 Supercar round.
Struggling for race-winning pace in a field covered by just one second, Craig started the #888 Red Bull Racing Holden Commodore well down the field in both Championship points races, driving tenaciously to 14th and 9th placed finishes.
“Not what we were hoping for of course but we did what we could … and at least I am still second in the championship,” a philosophical Craig Lowndes said.

“We're making progress but we still need to find a little more pace. We know we've got longer races over the course of the weekend so we're looking for endurance rather than sprint running. We haven't got soft tyres to practice on so we've got to rely on our knowledge from the past. If we can get the car to work on the hard tyre it should transfer across to the soft. We'll sit down tonight and go through some data and have a good think about what we've done today. We'll see what the good and bad has been and make our plans for tomorrow.”

"It was pretty busy out there today. We had a reasonable start but got caught up in a few first lap altercations. We got through it all and the speed early was okay from our soft to hard tyre. We lacked a little bit again on the hard tyre which is something we'll work on overnight. We were circulating well on the faster softs and our car pace was consistent in a lap time sense, but it fell away at the end. There's a little bit of work to do. It's not disastrous, but I think we could have finished much higher than where we ended up."

"At the start of the race we were mindful that we had a lot of work to do, so we were looking after the soft tyre to begin with. The hard tyre run was better today which is a good improvement and we moved to the soft tyre for the run home. Our pace was better than we had yesterday, being more consistent for longer, so we've obviously made some inroads into that side of it. For where we started and to finish ninth, we achieved our goal to be in the Top 10. It would have been nice to be further up the field and hunt down a few more guys, but ninth was a good enough result today."
