PODIUM WEEKEND STRENGTHENS SECOND IN CHAMPIONSHIP
Craig Lowndes strengthened his grip on second place in the 2015 V8 Supercar Championship with a podium-filled weekend at Queensland Raceway.
Hard work by the Red Bull Racing Australia crew had the #888 Commodore more competitive than in recent races, resulting in a third and two seconds places across the trio of Championship points events.
“Overall I’m delighted with the weekend,” Craig Lowndes said.
“We got the best out of it, the car speed is definitely improving but we know we’ve still got more work to do. To have three podiums over the weekend was sensational.
“We’ve got a little bit of time before Sydney Motorsport Park next round, so there’s more work to do, but it’s encouraging.”
- Foggy start, fine weather
- Co-driver session opens day, Steve Richards turns laps
- 16th fastest in Practice 1, on Hard tyres
- 10th fastest in Practice 2, on Soft tyres
“We were making some adjustments over the course of the two practice sessions today. We’ve been up and down a little bit, but I think we’ve got a good direction now for tomorrow. We still need to find a better balance and a bit better drive off the corner. Our entry and braking is quite good, if anything at the moment I’d like some more drive from turns three and six and if I can keep the rest from turns one and two I’ll be happy.”

“I had a reasonable start during the first race and stayed out of trouble. When it settled down I was stuck behind Shane Van Gisbergen and Chaz Mostert and I had the pace to stay with them but didn’t have the pace to pass. I managed to get past Chaz and got alongside Shane going into turn one…we got through it okay and he was still beside me. I then had the racing line into turn three and braked deep, got around on the drive out. It was pretty intense for three corners. For us our car has improved over the course of the day and that’s something we are really pleased with.
“During the second race today we had pole and I over committed into turn one and Frosty (Mark Winterbottom) did a fantastic job on the switch-back. We had good pace to match him and our car was stronger in certain areas. Hopefully today shows we’ve lifted our game and we can match these guys.”

“There are a lot of good signs, we had good pace on the softs (tyres) and good pace on the hards (today), and we were able to match the pace of the Prodrive guys over the course of the race, so a lot of encouragement.”
