NO JOY FOR CRAIG IN TOWNSVILLE
Craig Lowndes had no joy in Townsville's round of the 2014 V8 Supercar Championship, despite demonstrating front running pace throughout the weekend.
Sixth was the best result from three races on Townsville's street circuit, crash damage and an engine overheating issue ending any hope of success in the other two events.
"I think as (Peter) Brock used to say, it was a character building weekend," a bemused Craig Lowndes said.
"Not much to do now but go chasing wins and see where that leaves us at the end of the year."
- Warm, sunny mid-winter conditions
- Three practice sessions
- 16th fastest overall
"I think we lacked a bit of speed today, so we're a little disappointed. We put on a new set of tyres at the end of the third practice session and only matched our best time on the used tyres, so there's a little bit of work for us to do overnight."

"It's certainly been a yo-yo day of emotions. After being turned into the wall in the first race, we came back to the pits (for repairs) and there was a safety car so, knowing we had a lap in grace to try and get some points, I went back out.
"Unfortunately when I went into turn five and turned the (steering) wheel, nothing happened, so I went straight into the wall. It all happened very quickly but thankfully the tyre wall absorbed most of it and it probably looked worse than it felt.
"The team did an absolutely incredible job being able to turn the car around and get me back out on track for Race Two and all things considered we're happy with that result. It's going to be late night for all of us as we focus all of our energy on tomorrow."
