Craig Lowndes Latest News

Craig Lowndes endured the ups and downs of V8 Supercar racing at Victoria’s Phillip Island Grand Prix track on the weekend.

Contesting the penultimate round of the 2014 V8 Supercar Championship, Craig had a strong day on Saturday with a pair of seconds in the two shorter races, but on Sunday a mid-field start put paid to thoughts of a podium finish.

Battling all the way in the weekend’s longest race and delayed by pitlane stacking at one point, Craig fought home for 10th..

“It was always going to be a tough race starting from 15th and the safety car came out at the wrong time for us. Stacking in pit lane was inevitable in that situation, it probably would have been worse if we were closer to Jamie but we were able to manage the gap a bit better. I had a good battle with both Rick Kelly and James Courtney, it was a fun race and we finished 10th which was a good solid day.”

  • Overcast conditions, three sessions
  • First & only driver in the 1m 30s
  • Quickest overall on day one

“Yes, I’ve been really happy with the car all day. It’s a nice flowing car, feels really good, I’m very happy with it. We just have to make the tyres live tomorrow, otherwise it’s all good.

“It was pretty windy today and, depending on which direction the wind blows it affects the car and the way it handles, so that’s a challenge … but we know the conditions will be different tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.”

  • Qualified 2nd for Race 33
  • Qualified 3rd for Race 34
  • 2nd in Race 33
  • 2nd in Race 34

“The car’s been good all day, (you’ve) got to be happy with a couple of seconds. We weren’t quite there in the first race today, Scotty (McLaughlin) drove well (in the first race), I had a couple of goes but couldn’t quite get it done. We made some changes (between the races), and it was definitely better. Towards the end (of race two) I lost the rears but it didn’t matter, we had a good gap.”

  • Qualified 15th for Race 35
  • Strong drive from midfield stymied by pitlane stacking
  • Finishes 10th in Race 35

“In qualifying I just made a mistake on the second set of tyres, which was my last run and ran a bit wide. A little disappointing because the car was much better than we qualified.

“Our car was good throughout the race but it was tough to make ground from so far back … the field is very even and it takes time to move forward. We did what we could and we’ll have another go in Sydney.”
