CRAIG MAINTAINS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AT WINTON
Craig Lowndes maintained his lead in the 2014 V8 Supercar Championship with a 7th, an 8th and a 16th across three races at Winton Raceway on the weekend.
The tight and twisty track in rural Victoria proved less than ideal for the Red Bull Commodore, Lowndes fighting chassis set-up and tyre wear all weekend to register his trio of hard-won points finishes.
"Well, it was a pretty frustrating weekend after our success in Tasmania a week ago, but at least we were able to get some decent points even if we couldn't fight for wins," Craig Lowndes said.
"New Zealand is in three weeks' time so we'll regroup and aim to do better there than we did last year."
"The car was good today, we just had to wait until until the track dried to get a feel for where we were. I was quite happy where we ended up, I think we are in good shape for tomorrow."
- Three practice sessions
- Damp conditions affect practice times
- Strong finish to the day
- Fourth overall for the day
"The track gripped up today way more than we expected, and we just missed it ... the tyres went away big time in the first race and we finished 8th, in the second race we thought we'd look after them but they still fell off a cliff ... stuck back in the back I could do nothing about it.
- Qualifies 4th for race 7
- Qualifies 23rd for race 8
- Finishes 8th & 16th after dramatic day
"It's been a frustrating day but we got some solid points, we'll have to get it right tomorrow."
"If that's our bad round for the year, I guess I have to be reasonably happy. My car was better than yesterday but still not right. I started the race chasing oversteer and finished it needing front, so the car balance changed during the race. I didn't have any tyre left at the end and had nothing to fight the guys in front.
- Much hotter conditions
- Craig qualifies 5th for race 9
- Finishes 7th
