CRAIG MAINTAINS CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE
Despite not having ultimate race-winning pace, Craig Lowndes put together another strongly competitive weekend at the latest V8 Supercar Championship encounter at Victoria’s Winton track.
“Given how much we have struggled for pace at Winton the last couple of years, I am happy to collect a strong points haul from this weekend and stay in the hunt for the Championship,” Craig Lowndes said.
“We did what we could, now it’s on to Darwin where we generally run strongly … I am looking forward to it.”
Craig finished third in Sunday’s 200km main event, after solid 12th and 8th placed finishes in Saturday’s shorter 60km sprints.

"It didn't go too badly today. I think we had good balance on our used tyres. When we put our new tyres on, it sort of imbalanced the car a little bit. We're struggling with a lack of front tyre grip, which is what you need around here for a good lap time, so we've got something to work at. I think the beauty about today is that we know where we are now in relation to everyone else in car speed with the tyre life that we've got. I'm not too disappointed, the car was flowing really well and Grant (McPherson) and I have made a number of changes. We'll sit down tonight and prepare for tomorrow, but I'm still confident that we can make a decent car out of what we've done."

"It's been an interesting day and a tough day to be honest. Our morning practice session was ok. It gave us our direction and we went into qualifying, but didn't quite get the setup right for the conditions that we had. The oil getting put down prior to our qualifying sessions really hurt us and I probably lost a bit of direction with the car setup coming into the second qualifying session. In the first race, the car was ok. We got a great start, but it's always hard to pass around this circuit. We had pace, but couldn't quite show it and then we made an adjustment for Race Two to give the car more front, which is what I wanted. The car flowed well and I got another great start. We had a great race with Will Davison and we had more pace than we showed, but we've learnt a lot over the course of the day.”

“That was as good as we could do today, to be honest. Our car just doesn’t have the speed on the hard tyre and that costs us a lot, but on the softs it’s good, we have genuine pace. I was just hoping the guys in front were going to tangle and let me sweep through for the win!”
